“The principle on which this country was founded and by which it has been governed is that Americanism is a matter of mind and heart; Americanism is not, and never was, a matter of race and ancestry,” Franklin Delano Roosevelt said this while signing the Executive Order that created the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in February 1943. The Executive Order created the only all-Japanese unit during World War II.
On this Veterans Day, I am so proud that Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders have served in the U.S. military since the War of 1812, both sides of the Civil War and all other battles. In January 2017, members of FAPAC and I met Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth. We were able to thank her in person for her service as of the honored veterans. On Veterans Day and every day when you meet someone who has served for our country, please thank them for their service.
If you would like to share photos of veterans in your family or those you have met, please do so on our Facebook page. Upload your photos of veterans and share their stories. On behalf of the FAPAC National Board of Directors and its members, to all veterans… “We thank you for your service!”
President, Federal Asian Pacific American Council
