WASHINGTON D.C. - The Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC) had the honor of providing public comments during the National Museum of Asian Pacific American Museum Commission Convening & Listening Session on May 12, 2026, in Washington, DC. The Commission shared about their ongoing work and invited FAPAC and other community organizations to share public comments on what a future National Asian Pacific American Museum could look like.
Read FAPAC's remarks:
FAPAC is a national non-profit that provides leadership development and networking opportunities for federal employees, DC government employees, and our military service members. FAPAC has dedicated over 40 years to promote public service, especially among the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community.
We strongly believe the museum should be part of the Smithsonian Institution to establish a permanent home in the Nation’s Capital where the stories, contributions, and impact of the AANHPI community will be accessible to all. The Smithsonian’s positive reputation and global visibility ensure the infrastructure will be there to preserve AANHPI culture and history, and serve as a hub for future research opportunities and exhibitions in collaboration with local organizations.
The Smithsonian’s five-year strategic plan ends in Fiscal Year 2027, and it names the establishment of two National Museums for Latinos and Women. The National Asian Pacific American Museum should be in the Smithsonian’s strategic plan for the next five years, and it should be on the National Mall along with other institutions that tell America's story.
On behalf of the Federal Asian Pacific American Council, we look forward to partnering with the Commission to engage AANHPIs and FAPAC Members across the country in the museum’s creation.
